The international e-commerce market rewards merchants who communicate in the local language of their customers, not with machine-sounding translation text, but with fluent, purchase-motivating descriptions. TwoPixels GmbH has developed its own AI-powered translation workflow for this purpose, which reads JTL article data directly from the ERP, translates it, and writes it back in structured form.

JTL Service Partner with its own AI translation system

TwoPixels is an official JTL Service Partner and runs its own translation workflow that is directly connected to the JTL-Wawi database. This means no export to spreadsheets, no manual copy-paste, no version conflicts between the ERP and the shop. Translations are written back into the JTL-Wawi language fields and from there automatically transferred to the Shopify store via the TwoPixels Bridge.

The workflow is multi-tenant capable: each client has its own language settings, its own brand voice guidelines, and its own SEO rules. An update to an article in the ERP automatically triggers a re-translation when needed, without manual effort.

  • Direct connection to JTL-Wawi database fields
  • No export/import loops, translations go directly into the ERP
  • Multi-tenant: own brand voice and SEO rules per shop
  • Automatic re-translation on article changes (configurable trigger system)
  • Audit log: which articles were translated into which language, and when

What gets translated: full article coverage

A JTL article has many translatable fields: article name, short description, long description, sales subtitle, SEO title (meta title), SEO description (meta description), variant labels, delivery information, and compliance texts.

TwoPixels translates all of these fields, not just the visible description, but also the metadata that is critical for search engine visibility. In practice this means your English-language Shopify store has an English SEO title and an English meta description for every article, not German texts that show up as hreflang errors in Google Search Console.

  • Article name and sales title per language
  • Short and long description (HTML-formatted, CRO-optimized)
  • SEO title and meta description per language (character limits observed)
  • Variant labels: sizes, colors, and flavors in the target language
  • Compliance texts and warning notices phrased appropriately for the language

SEO optimization per language, not just translation

Translating is not the same as SEO optimizing. A word-for-word translated product title often misses the search intent in the target market. TwoPixels integrates keyword research into the translation process: for each target language, the relevant search terms are identified and worked naturally into the title and description.

The result is article data that can rank organically in the target language, not just correctly translated, but optimized for the respective market. Combined with the automatic transfer to Shopify via the TwoPixels Bridge, this is a fully automated path from German article creation to international Shopify visibility.

  • Keyword integration per target language (not purely literal translation)
  • Meta title: 60-character limit, main keyword at the front
  • Meta description: 160-character limit, call to action in the target language
  • Hreflang-correct structure for multi-language Shopify
  • Local search intent taken into account: UK English vs. US English, Swiss German vs. German

GEO compliance for AI search

Generative AI systems (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) extract information from structured, factually precise product data. TwoPixels phrases article descriptions so they are citable in AI search: clear factual statements, quantities, material descriptions, and areas of use, without marketing phrases that AI systems do not cite.

This GEO compliance (Generative Engine Optimization) is no longer a topic for the future; it is already relevant today for merchants who want to reach customers through AI search. TwoPixels integrates GEO principles into every translation by default.

  • Factual statements instead of marketing phrases (AI-citable)
  • Structured data points: weight, dimensions, material, origin
  • FAQ elements in long descriptions (structured data for featured snippets)
  • Schema.org markup for product data (combined with Shopify metafields)
  • Ongoing adaptation to GEO best practices

CRO optimization: copy that converts

Conversion rate optimization (CRO) starts with the product description. TwoPixels phrases descriptions not only correctly and in a search-friendly way, but also with a sales focus: benefit orientation instead of feature listing, clear calls to action, and emotional relevance for the target audience in the respective language.

A British Shopify store has different conventions than an American one: different units of measurement, different idioms, different trust signals. TwoPixels takes these differences into account and delivers market-appropriate product copy instead of a uniform-sounding machine translation.

  • Benefit-oriented phrasing (why to buy, not just what to buy)
  • Market-specific adaptation (UK vs. US, DACH vs. Austria, Swiss German)
  • Units of measurement correct for the locale (kg/g, cm/inch, EUR/GBP)
  • Trust signals in the target language (warranty, shipping time, right of return)
  • A/B variants available on request

FAQ: JTL article translations

How many articles can be translated at once?
The system is bulk-capable. We have translated catalogs with more than 5,000 articles in a single run. Runtime depends on the number of fields and target languages, typically 500 articles in 4 to 8 hours.
Are translations automatically updated after an article change in the ERP?
This is configurable. In the standard setup, changed fields are marked as "translation outdated" and re-translated in a daily batch. Real-time translation on every change is possible on request.
Which languages are supported?
All languages with sufficient training data: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Italian, Portuguese, and more on request.
Are the translations reviewed by native speakers?
This is optional and recommended for the first batch. TwoPixels provides the technical translation service; expert sign-off by a native speaker can be integrated into the process.
How are industry-specific terms handled?
We maintain a glossary per client: technical terms, brand names, and product categories are not translated but retained, or correctly labeled in the target language.
Does this also work without the TwoPixels Bridge, if we manage Shopify separately?
Yes. The translations can also be delivered as an export file (CSV, JSON) that you import into Shopify yourself. The direct Bridge integration is significantly more efficient, however.
