Shared hosting works fine for brochure websites. For JTL-Wawi databases with 100,000 items, running shop connectors and parallel WMS access, it is the wrong foundation. TwoPixels GmbH runs all JTL systems on its own, dedicated infrastructure in EU data centers, using the same systems and processes we rely on for our own 6 active Wawi tenants.

SQL Server Express

Free & licensed for production use, up to 10 GB per database. Included in Package A, every customer gets their own instance (its own 10 GB quota, not shared).

SQL Server Standard

For databases over 10 GB or higher load. A one-time license that becomes your property (the licensee is the client).

Windows Server License

Required for Packages B and C. Added once and belongs to you (the client is the licensee), shown transparently.

JTL-Wawi License

Bring your own (your existing JTL license). We host and operate your Wawi on the right infrastructure.

Why shared hosting does not work for JTL

JTL-Wawi uses Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) as its database backend. MSSQL is a resource-intensive database with significant RAM requirements under load. Typical shared hosting environments do not offer MSSQL, so merchants fall back on SQLite or MySQL instead, losing performance and stability in the process.

From a product catalog of 10,000 entries, the limits of shared hosting become clear: import jobs run into timeouts, shop sync breaks off, reports take minutes instead of seconds. TwoPixels sizes your hosting environment based on your actual volume, with buffer for peak loads such as campaign periods or seasonal business.

  • MSSQL needs dedicated RAM resources (min. 4 GB, recommended 8 to 16 GB depending on tenant)
  • JTL-Wawi import jobs and shop sync run in parallel, no shared CPU quota
  • JTL-Shop needs PHP 8.x with configured OpCode caches
  • JTL-WMS mobile clients need a stable, low-latency connection to the server

What TwoPixels Hosts

TwoPixels runs all central JTL components on a shared, secured infrastructure:

JTL-Wawi MSSQL Database: Dedicated MSSQL server on its own VM, correctly configured with maintenance plans, automatic statistics updates and regular index rebuilds. Backup hourly (snapshots), daily (full backup at 3:00 AM), retention 30 days.

JTL-Shop: PHP application on an optimized web server VM with Nginx, PHP-FPM, Redis cache and configured SSL/TLS certificates via Let's Encrypt. Automatic renewal.

JTL-WMS: Separate VM for the WMS server and handheld scanner (MDE) communication. The WiFi connection to the warehouse runs through your local router, while the server itself sits securely in the data center.

TwoPixels Bridge: Our own Shopify connector runs in its own, isolated environment, fully separated from other customers.

Our own dedicated infrastructure in the EU

TwoPixels operates its own dedicated server infrastructure in German data centers (EU). All customer data stays in the EU. The infrastructure is fully under our control, no third-party cloud services in the data path, no dependency on AWS outages or Azure disruptions.

Every customer gets their own, fully isolated server. No customer shares databases or file systems with another, separation is strictly enforced at the server level.

Backups and Disaster Recovery

TwoPixels operates a three-tier backup system. Hourly snapshots secure the current VM state and enable point-in-time recovery in case of configuration errors or database corruption. Daily full backups run at 3:00 AM and are kept for 30 days. Critical directories (database dumps, configuration files) are additionally replicated to a separate storage system.

In case of failure: a single VM restart takes under 2 minutes. Fully restoring a JTL-Wawi database environment from a snapshot takes under 30 minutes.

24/7 Security and Performance Monitoring

All TwoPixels production systems are monitored around the clock by professional security (SIEM) and performance monitoring. The system detects anomalies, unauthorized login attempts and configuration changes in real time. Performance monitoring visualizes CPU, RAM, disk I/O and network throughput per VM.

When defined thresholds are exceeded, an alert is triggered automatically and Christopher Schütz is notified personally. Response time for critical alerts is under 4 hours on business days.
